OK, first I guess it’s called a flex plate because it’s a CVT (auto) transmission…
I just did an oil change on a (new to us) 2013 Subaru Impreza and when I looked up in the general area of the drain plug I could see the teeth on the ring gear of the flex plate!! Is this normal? I would think there should be some sort of cover over this area. Hard to get a really good look at it because there is a large plastic “skid plate” covering most of the bottom of the engine, but looking up behind it I could definitely see what looked to me to be the ring gear.
Any Subaru experts out there could tell me if this is the way they are built?
Thanks in advance.
