impala starter issue

I have a 2000 chevy impala, 3.4 190,000 miles. the starter works but wont stay engaged while its spinning. if I tap on the solenoid some times it will stay engaged to the flex plate a little longer. the book says that starter is non serviceable and has to be replaced. my question is, can I do anything to fix this problem without replacing it?

You can purchase a new solenoid, drive and brushes and replace them but for twenty dollars more you can buy a rebuilt starter with a warranty. To me it’s a no brainer which way to go.
