I am wanting to purchase the 48 piece Craftsman impact socket set, but I have noticed it has 27, 24 and 21 M. The vehicle I currently have has not needed anything above a 19 M, but I hope to replace it in a year or two.
Is it common to use a 21, 24 and 27 M socket because I may just buy the set with less sockets to save some money at the moment?

21, 24 and to a lesser extent 27 are used here and there on suspension systems. Japanese lugnuts are 21 and many 3/4 ton trucks are 24.

Are they common? not really. But they are used. I think I used 24″ and 27″ for rotating crankshaft on few cars. 32″ and 36″ are used for pulling the axle nuts. But you can pick these up individually – you don’t have to buy them as part of set. 22″ are also frequently used in suspension parts.

21 is 13/16 used for lugs on f150s 24 is used on suspension bolts 27 same but usually trucks if you own a small car hou won’t use many big sizes as most all are smaller like my wife’s focus biggest bolt or nut is the axel nut which is usually 32-34-36 ,alot of sets skip sizes in the 20s as alot have an sae equivalent you can substitute but most sizes are not used in autos that they skip. My 3/8 set is cornwell and it skips as well and go to 27 ,I do have a blue point chrome set that skips no sizes in the 20’s even has 20mm snap on skips them in theirs as well blue point is Asian made and in Asia they use sizes we dont.

              Hi,
The 21mm is a bit looser than the 13/16 but it can usually be used.
The 22mm is a bit snugger than the 7/8.
The 24mm is close to 15/16.
A 1 1/16 can usually be used for the 27mm.
I find I do use a 23mm on Dodge wheel nuts when they get rusted.
