Hello all. I’ve been in the market for a new used car for a while now. I’ve checked out a few different Honda models, and I’m really liking The 2002-05 Honda civic Si. There is one for sale in my are for $4800 with 148k miles. I know the basics of what to check and look out for when looking at a used vehicle, butI’m just wondering if there is anything I should know about this model before buying. Just want to know what you guys think…

Which year model is the one with 148k miles ? As far as price , ask your bank loan officer . Is it from an individual or dealer .

You can also go to the Kelley Blue Book web site or check the NADA pricing .

I think there is a FAQ on this web site about buying a used car .

With me , price is the big consideration . When comparing apples to apples .

Just do not fall in love with a car , to the extent that you pay through the nose for it . They are expensive enough , as it is .

        God bless

If you do your own maintenance no problem. If you pay others to work on you vehicle make sure the one you buy is very common (lots of parts available). The less common the more it will cost to maintain.

I would advice against the 2002 model, and skip that generation all together as it was unpopular.

Go with an EM1 civic, or go to the 2006 generation as parts are abundance. Literally any honda part will work between 1980 – 2000 in most Civics (until 2000).

Same everything for the most part, which is why b18 swaps are so common. K series is a little more pricey to play with

While I agree that is the crappiest generation of Civic, they’re still better than anything of the same vintage from the same category.

Can’t really comment on the price of a used car without seeing it and knowing the local market.

Be careful of the civics in the model years of 2006-2009. They are known to have cracked engine blocks and the engine must be replaced.
I think the Si models are excluded from these problems though.

Suggest you check out http://www.carcomplaints.com and view the major complaints by model year. If possible always try and select the last year in the model generation. By then they have sorted most of the major issues out.

I think you can do better on the price. I certainly wouldn’t pay that for that car. I paid 2x less for a big dodge truck top trim. B)

The SI models are not covered, only the “base” R18s are, the SI motor is completely different. There is a 10 year warranty extension on them, so as long as the car’s in service date is less than 10 years, Honda will cover the replacement.
