Hey Everyone! So last week I noticed that I can remove my key from my ignition cylinder in any position. I picked up a new lock cylinder (Dorman Model 924-703) it came with extra tumblers so you can re-code the lock cylinder to your existing key so I took the old lock cylinder and got the numbers on each tumbler so I can code the new one.

I did this no problem, re-assembled the new one and tested it out. The key will turn no problem to On and Start and back to the off position. The problem is that no matter what it will not turn backwards to the Accessory position.

Anyone have any ideas what could be going on here? I’m thinking it could be the key is worn just right that it would prevent it from spinning backwards but I think it’s odd that it will work fine for everything but Accessory.

Also before I re-coded the new one I tested it out and it worked in all positions. Does anyone out there have any experience with this or have any suggestions?

      Thanks,

      -Jim

I will second your suspicions. I too would suspect that the key is worn just right not allowing you to turn it back into that position. It may also be the installation of the lock cylinder. You might want to go back over your work just to check to make sure that everything is positioned correctly. You might also consider filing the tumblers down just a little to see if that will help. Maybe also add a little graphite lubricant.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hey Eric! Thanks for the reply. I went to a dealership today to get the original key for that vehicle re-made. Only costs $16 since there wasn’t any anti-theft technology in the key. I took it home and it worked like a charm confirming the key was the issue.

Now just to lube it up and put it back in the vehicle!!

That’s great news! Thanks for the update and for using the ETCG forum.
