      I finished two projects-

Spark test came back good, spark at all four. Had a CEL during testing (probably a P0301, as it turned on during testing of the first plug. Didn’t have a scan tool to confirm). Maybe my connection of the in-line tester between the plug and the wire was not as good as it could have been (pic). CEL went off after I cleaned up and reinstalled the coils/module.

Ignition coils: I am surprised the car has run this long with what I found (pics attached). I cleaned one additional time after the Nearly Final Clean pic (attached), for good measure including the contact area of the fastener heads. I was so anxious to button it up and take it for a spin that I forgot to take pics of the mounting area, after cleaning. It was almost as clean as my valve cover gasket mating surfaces (from last weekend’s post).

Test Drive: It seems to run better and miss less at idle/coasting, 2200 rpm (but that could be psychological). I plan to test it again tomorrow, maybe even give it a good wash before I go.

I am still planning to do the compression test. I looked up the specs last night, 190 psi with 180 psi service limit, but 10% would be 171 psi. I guess we’ll see!

Your doing some nice work. 😉 I take it the spark on
all 4 was a nice deep blue spark when tested?

          Hey college man,

          Thanks. 🙂

With the type of tester (in-line) I used, the spark was viewed as orange. I suppose had I used the electronic type, I might have viewed the spark as deep blue…deep blue? Spark appears bright white on camera.

I was hoping to be able to do a before and after (ignition contact cleaning) spark test in which I saw a change in spark intensity. I don’t think that is possible with the inline tester. My Haynes Manual
recommends a calibrated (25,000 V) electronic type but I couldn’t find one locally.
