Idle Problem NEED HELP!

I just bought a 2000 honda civic SI from a guy and he was telling me it had a hunting idle problem.The RPM Just goes up and down and for some reason the car shakes alot.I also saw that once I crank the A/C the RPM goes up to about 2500 and goes back to idleing. The first owner who had it changed out the stock motor B16a to a JDM B16A. I have changed the IACV and still nothing.But once the temp needle is in the middle the idleing stops.But once I take it out for a 5 min run once I park the idleing comes back. And about two weeks later it started overheating because for some reason the radiator fan doesn’t want to kick on when its supposed to. I have checked the fan with a battery and it works so I don’t know the problem there. The fuses are good. Im not sure whats wrong with it. I spent $5000 on the car. The motor has 70K miles and new transmission. It’s just driving me crazy because a mechanic told me that the problem was a “man made problem” so I have no idea what it is! It would be great if somebody could help me out!

First off- welcome to the forums !

If you go to the page titled ” repair central ” top of the page you can read erics ” idle speech ” covers the main causes for honda idle probs. also one thing that causes issues is the coolant temp sensor. when bad the ecm can’t tell if the car is warmed up or not so it causes probs. also air in the cooling system causes probs. read the idle speech as it has much good info.

wow not much to say A+ guys. If all checks out on the air in cooling system. you will need to look for a cooling fan relay. good luck and keep us posted. C8-)

have you cleaned the battery terminals. ive had 2 cars, a jeep, and my truck all have idle problems because the battery terminals and connections were corroded. take off both connections, and use either a battery terminal cleaner, or sand paper, or a wire brush and a dremel. make sure they shine inside the connections, and outside the terminals.
