My daughter took her car to a repair shop and the replaced a whole lot of parts on it. Head, struts, tie rod ends, water pump did a tune up FRONT END ALIGNMENT. She spent over 1600$ on her car. We had freezing rain last week and she hit the curb on the left front @ 20 mph. EVERYTHING was screwed up. She said it felt like she was driving on ice!!

She wasn’t able to get the car out of the shop until last week d/t the cost. She took it back to the shop today and they told her that everything they DIDN’T replace now needs to be replaced to the tune of $700 + My son said that the sway
bar bushings looked bad. They also said the steering knuckle was bent. but there are charges for an R & R front hub replacement.

So is she being royally screwed?

      Thanks!!

Would need more context, make, model, mileage, how crappy IN roads are, etc.. This a dealership, independent, or popular chain repair shop?

Your son could check if that last one is on the level for front hub bearing damage himself by just jacking it up and testing. If it takes a good enough slam like that it is recommended to change the hub bearing assembly by many out of hand, sometimes for extra work, but usually so you have a completely fixed car for the money you’ve paid, coming back later and recommending them to others because you’re car is now like new. Not coming back to them in 3 weeks to 3 months when that assembly starts getting noisy. So really, I can’t say all in all one way or the other.

I talked to the repair shop and found out that what I thought was an actual bill was an estimate. So I am no longer a lioness!! 🙂 She is talking to ins co now.

Forgot to tell you that she bent the steering knuckle, the lower control arm, possibly the left strut, the inner tie rods and all the connecting parts he doesn’t thin that the half shafts are bad.

          Will keep you updated!!

          Thanks!!

Curb hits like that can cause a lot of damage to the suspension parts and sometimes undercarriage. I’m glad you got it sorted out. That said, if you feel that the shop is not treating you fairly you can always take it somewhere else for an estimate. Understand without looking at the vehicle for ourselves it’s impossible for us to say if you’re being taken or not.

doesnt take much of a hit to cause major damage, there is a unnamed make and model that the dealer kept engines and right front suspension parts in stock in early 2000’s, almost every time it would slide into a curb and the lower control arm would rupture the oil pan, blew the engine almost every time.
