I have a 2002 Nissan sentra gxe 5spd. I did a head gasket replacement. The marks I made on my chain didn.t even match up when putting the cam gears back on. But I got it to where I thought it was good and its not its reving up by itself when I turn it on. So I guess im gonna tear it all down again and fix whatever needs fixed because it did knock there at the end. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxhhN7DaYDU&feature=youtu.be

But when I do it how do I know for sure 100% that I have my timing and gears and timing chain all matched up where it is supposed to be?

Thank you. But it was actually 4 sensors i missed and didn’t plug in. Here are my new problems.

          The dropping to 500rpms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__jDgYh6Mp4&feature=youtu.be

(took the muffler off a long time ago) Lope sound almost/misfire? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kT4kvIqCgT0&list=UUibhRAwHM5VQjlEsIUtOPTQ

What the car sounded like way before I ever had any problems with it. Not much of just idling but you can tell its not what it is now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i55VMSEIDUc&feature=youtu.be

I think I might have one chain link off, or two. When I missed those 4 sensors it screwed something up inside. I don’t know what else it could be or what to do.

Did it throw any diagnostic trouble codes you way? It sounds like an ignition misfire to me. Are you proficient with a timing light? This might help you lay this issue to rest/ confirm.

It’s most likely something you forgot to connect (as you have already found) or a problem with the installation. Anytime you have issues after a big job like that it’s always a good idea to go back over the work.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I actually found the intake cam was two links off an need to be spun to the left two links. That was the problem its fixed now and running good. Thanks man!
