I have a 1994 ford crown vic with a no start condition, i found out that the culprit was that the gas inlet that had began to rust and all that rust ended up in the tank. The rust messed up the fuel pump and i need to get rid of all the sticky residue that ended up around the pump and the tank.What is the best way to fix it.

Well then, I would take Dio’s suggestion 🙂
To be honest I think you can get that fuel pump as one unit so that may not be an issue at all.
As for the rest of the system I think the fuel filter probably did it’s job unless you removed the line at the fuel rail and saw rust. To be honest fuel injection cleaning systems are designed to remove deposits NOT metal flakes like you would find in rust so if you have rust at the rail you might flush it out the best you can but you may need to replace some injectors if the rust got that far, many times there is a screen filter at the inlet of injectors so you may be able to just remove this and clean it out or replace it to solve that part of the equation. For the rest of the lines once you have the tank out there is no better time to run some solvent (perhaps mineral spirits) with some compressed air through the lines and of course replace the filter. Lastly given that a new tank is so cheep I would just replace it rather than trying to flush the old one, I think that might be more trouble than it’s worth in the end. And on that subject you may be able to bolt up a regular tank to the car even though it’s an interceptor because as has been mentioned it could just have some extra protection that you wont’ need in civilian use, I doubt they would change the dimensions of the tank for just one vehicle type if I’m honest.
