I have a 1994 ford crown vic with a no start condition, i found out that the culprit was that the gas inlet that had began to rust and all that rust ended up in the tank. The rust messed up the fuel pump and i need to get rid of all the sticky residue that ended up around the pump and the tank. What is the best way to fix it.

Take the tank out and flush it, flush all the lines and replace the inlet (AKA filler neck)
And hope you don’t have injector problems down the road.

+ 1 on removing the tank and having it flushed. most radiator shops do this. would also have it pressure checked for any leaks.

Thanks man i forgot i needed to flush all the lines too, while i am at it i think i will clean the injectors.I was thinking on putting some rust remover on the tank but i don’t know if its safe for the tank. I wonder if the protective liner that the tank has would come off if i use it.

Yup, cleaning the injectors would be a good idea.
Don’t forget to install new O-rings on the injectors when you do it.T)

I googled your car and gas tank, and the first post I saw was:

                    http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/shop_ … toria.html

It might be worth investing in a tank with a warranty instead of trying to reuse one that is known to be rusty. I don’t know what a shop would charge to repair an old one though.

Hey bud. I don’t know that he has a metal tank. I just googled the car and gas tanks out of curiosity on price vs. having the tank serviced. The first tank on there was $79 bucks with free shipping. Maybe the interceptor package had plastic tanks as some sort of safety feature, or the site I looked at was full of crap. I just know that if the prices were similar and I could just replace an old, possibly rusted/leaking/contaminated tank, I’d choose the new part.

And yes Twiggy, you’re absolutely right– “I don’t think he said his tank was rusting. He said the inlet was rusting and the rust was falling into his tank”
I misread that at first. Thanks for pointing it out.

Wait what? I own a 1994 ford crown vic with the cop kit (Yes it steal has all the cop stuff with the interceptor setup)
The tank on mine is plastic. Are you sure its plastic???

Anyway – after you do all the above (I would run some Lucas or b12 or seafoum) threw the system. even after you clean the ejectors.

I… What? I’m not sure what you mean by plastic. The guy said his tank was rusting.. The OEM replacement is steel.. I guess I’m a bit confused. Plastic obviously doesn’t rust.

If he does replce the tank (not a bad idea at all) I would make sure to get a plastic one if you can, I hate steel tanks.

Thanks guy for all your good input ,but the gas tank isn’t rusting away. The filler neck was all rusted and all the rust went into the tank, so all that rust fucked up the gas pump. How to get rid of all the sticky rust on the fuel pump housing and inside the tank? was the question. I did not know that crown vics came with a plastic tank lol.
