Had an interesting little surprise this weekend. I was refurbing the steering linkage and track bar on my 1993 Grand Cherokee, and I set up a puller on the ball stud of the track bar to break it free from the frame bracket. I left the nut loosely threaded on the stud to stop the bar falling on me when it finally let go.
I cranked, cranked and cranked on the puller screw, and nothing was happening… I occasionally hammered on the bracket to see if that would help it let go… nothing. In the end I got my W7150 cordless impact onto the puller screw and gave it short bursts, and finally there was a bang like a gun going off and the track bar fell on me.
There was so much tension set up in the track bar that the ball stud had pushed all the way through the nut, which was still in the frame bracket. Never seen that before :woohoo:
