Yup, that’s the driving force – i am cheap by nature. I can’t stand to pay somebody $500 to put on a set of brakes and rotors when I can do it myself for a 1/4 of that. I am also lazy….I have been starting to “throw parts at a problem when I know better” That’s why I want to thank Eric for pounding in my brain that I need to diagnose a problem to figure out what is wrong. – check for spark – , – do a balance test – , – check the voltage on the fuses, – use a stethoscope ( I had one rotting in the corner of the garage), etc.
I have been working on my own cars for at least 37 years….you know the saying ” I forgot more then you ever learned about cars” – well the truth is I just “forgot” period. 😉
Cars I own: 1994 Acura Vigor GS, 2.5 liter inline 5 G25A, manual transmission – 310,000 miles. work I did on this car includes replacing the CV axles, replacing the upper control arms, pressing in new ball joints, and bushings on the lower control arms (a new assembly was too expense, remember, I am cheap). Pressed in a new wheel bearing on the hub, driver’s side. Changed out the rack boots (no, there was no oil leaks that I hid). Replaced the distributor and wires (actually to stop an oil leak!).
1998 Ford Ranger 4×4 with the 3.slow liter engine, manual transmission. I did so much work on this truck I am ashamed to admit it because I will never get my money back if I sold it. I did replace the clutch, master and slave cylinder, full suspension front to back repair (still stock, no mods) and all the brakes.
2010 Toyota Camry 2.5 liter VVTi – right at 200,000 miles – brakes, stereo upgrade, new plugs, this car is one of the best I ever owned, no trouble from it.
1995 Ford Club Wagon 302 V8 – has 347,000 miles on it. removed the radiator cap, pushed it out of the way, rolling in a new van, replaced the the cap on it. Just wanted to see if you are still reading all this bull****
