I noticed you, ETCG, mentioned smells coming from thew HVAC. My mothers HVAC smells awful when it it turned on. We have taken it to the dealer and they said that it was the floor mats (which it isn’t). Is there any easy way of removing the smell. The car is a 2012 Nissan Altima 2.5L.

are the floor mats plastic? is the smell when the a/c is on, heat, or both? does this vehicle have a cabin filter? check to make sure its clean if applicable.

does it smell like rotten egg? have you been using the
ac? does the smell go away?

Any smells a coming from the A/C are usually caused by a dirty cabin/AC filter, a dirty blower motor, something sitting on the intake for the A/C (between the windscreen and the bonnet) or invisible bacteria build up within the A/C system. To fix this problem check/clean out the blower motor, check/replace the cabin/AC filter, cleaning rubbish from the intake or by taking your car to a dealership or A/C specialist to get your A/C system cleaned of bacteria build up.

The smell comes when, the blower starts. After a minute the smell will go away if the air is cold or hot. The Filter was molder a few months ago and it was replaced. I assume that there is mold somewhere in the system that needs to be cleaned out.

Then you should remove and check your blower motor and get the system cleaned. This has to be done professionally because the mist that kills the bacteria….really isn’t good for you trust me haha goodluck
