Brought a 2007 Toyota Corolla CE from my parents who were the first owners. My HVAC is just blowing cold air out of the center two vents but the driver side vent blows a slightly warmer air. Here is what I have done so far.

      1) pressure tested system at 11-13 lbs for 30 minutes no drop in pressure at all 2) have never smelled that sweet sick smell of antifreeze from inside or out but the Toyota red antifreeze isn’t as strong of a smell 3)replaced radiator cap 4) replaced thermostat 5) back flushed heater core and has good flow 6) traced heater control cable and it is attached and moving mechanical “flipper” 7) when turning heater control from hot to cold can hear “flipper” moving 8) side of heater core metal and metal pipes are exposed by design on drivers side floorboard and both metal pipes are hot when car is at operating temp 9) car warms up at regular speed and does not show cold or hot but stays at normal operating temp on gauge 10) cabin air filter is new… replaced two months ago

The only thing I can think of is that maybe the flipper isn’t fully engaging or there is some kind of air blockage keeping air from going through the heater core … wouldn’t even know where to begin to remove an air flow blockage issue without attempting a full dash dissection(you basically have to take the dash down the the fire wall to get the heater core out).

As far as I can tell, there is no heat control valve for this year of corolla and I don’t see anything about one in the Haynes manual or online. Older models did have them. Heater core is hot and manual flipper sounds like it is engaging( can tell the air flow slows down a bit when turned to hot).

      Please help!

what you need to check is if the controls are cable operated or electronic. Try looking behind the glove compartment
or under the passenger side. You may have a blend door actuator issue or cable problem.

It is a cable connected and I traced it down… it is connected and moving the plastic flipper ( also can tell that the air pressure lessens when on hot vers when on cold) .

But now I have a new issue that just started happening when I tried to confirm that I still had good back flow through the heater core. I am now getting lots of humidity on the window…so it’s looking like I put too much pressure on the the heater core with the water hose. Well long story short, I will have to replace the heater core now…wahoo(2-3 days of my life that I will never get back).

I ended up putting a bypass in to take the heater core out of the coolant flow so I can drive it. Just FYI if anyone thinks they can just use electric heaters in cars to replace the fluid one…get ready for a cold ride. Thanks for your response and time.

Little cold to have the heater core go out. Keep us posted on your progress.
