I was getting ready to order parts to repair the a/c system on my 1999 F150 from a supplier on the internet. One of the parts they offered that I need to replace was an orifice tube that takes the place of an expansion valve. What I didn’t know at the time was it comes in two color codes blue and red. Since I’ve never heard of this before I went looking to why two colors were offered. This past weekend I worked on another F150 that had the red color marking and it came with a description of what the red marker meant. It seems that the red is a heavier duty orifice tube than the blue. It is used in hotter climates that exceed 100 to 105 degrees like in Arizona. This was what I was looking for so I could make the decision of what to buy. I thought I’d pass this along to those who may contemplate repairing their air conditioning systems and having to choose which color orifice tubes to buy for their vehicle.
