So my shop got a new tire machine, the hunter auto 34, yesterday. No real training was done on it yesterday. Naturally I come in this morning imeadiatly get a tire job. After that, another one and another. 5 total. So I somewhat got burnt on hours. Also broke the duck bill on the last job but I pretty much got the machine down now. Seems like a nice piece.

What I don’t like is that there are alot more nuanced steps involved and if you mess up the inital roller setup the rest of the unmount and mounting is a pain.

Any pit falls with this machine?

Haven’t played with something that new myself, but I did see an article in MOTOR recently mentioning that Hunter had training videos on its site for each machine that it sells. Might be worth a look to see what they are telling you to do, perhaps a trick or two that could save you some time or a feature you didn’t know it had.

Top Tip call the apprentice over and get him to do the tyre while you make your self a cup of coffee, that’s the best way I’ve found to do it.

I haven’t had the time to watch the videos yet, but have bookmarked them. The one who had time to watch them did show me quite a bit. I blew through a few Pirelli P-zero tires like they were Michelin Latitudes. The machine is almost effortless to operate.

I like the coffee thing but I am the apprentice lol.

I use this machine when i do tires.. i didnt like it at first.. coming from the old style (tire-iron instead of rollers) but now, it makes it a lot less stressful, especially with lower profile tires. However the duckbills are known to break quite a bit, even with normal use. They handle quite a bit more pressure due to the whole system being pneumatic.

Overall though, its nice once you get used to it. Not that i do tires all that much, but when i do its a lot less labor than how we used to do them.
