I know there’s a lot of guys who are pretty anal about their cars. but I’m the opposite. My girlfriend drives my 04 impala and I took it to walmart last night….let’s just say she wasn’t really happy with what I had to say when I got home. 3 k over on lof, low tires, rotor are way outta whack. I spend a good portion of the day at work fixing those as well as replacing the f axles. My yukon’s tires are bald, that’s next ca-ching 🙁
Do you guys keep your cars way up, or are you too worn down?

Well my motor is good but my car is not the best looking in the world but today after reinstalling my radiator I find out that I broke my tranny cooler and now have to replace that. -_- oh joy…
January 14, 2013 at 10:02 am #491552I try and keep my car tip top. I dont really consider it just a way of transportation. It’s more of a hobby. But then again, I like fixing up stuff lol im always finding something to do.
January 14, 2013 at 3:31 pm #491572I procrastinate on what I can get away with. My girl’s car is always good to go, but at the end of a full week fixing everything else I simply hate grabbing a wrench to touch my own stuff. Blew my trans up in my Suburban on Memorial Day Weekend. Bought a Caravan for $900 as a work beater to get me by. Guess how far I’ve gotten on the truck? I pulled the driveshaft and drained the fluids. You’d think I’d have all winter long to get my motorcycle ready too, but it needs a bit of ignition work, carb work and front brakes. I’m trying to motivate myself to do it now, but I’m sure it’ll take having to see everyone else out on their bikes in May to get me off my ass by June.
If its a cosmetic thing, usually I leave it alone. If its a safety issue or a reliability issue I bite the bullet and get it done. Can’t put the kids in something unsafe, but I sure can put them in something ugly and needing to be washed.
January 15, 2013 at 12:50 am #491722My GSX is tippity, top. I would eat off the engine bay it is so well maintained.
My 99 Camry is a 400.00 shit box I bought which wouldn’t start (all because it was super low on oil) changed the oil, did all the neglect maintenance and the car does what it needs to do every day. Body looks like crap, but it’s my money maker, and it gets me to where I make money…sort of.
January 15, 2013 at 6:02 am #491865I used to drive old cars and would fix them have them painted and drive them. Then last year I really wanted to get a new truck so I went out and got one, it was great for the first 6 months but now it is like I am driving a bill around. I miss not having a payment.Other then that its great driving a new truck that only needs oil changes and washer fluid…
January 18, 2013 at 11:51 am #492737just got a new tire yesterday, need a left front hub, oil change and need a door panel as well as rebuild my stereo system that was stripped when the car was stolen a few weeks ago, hell got the car back in running condition so i guess im happy, and the girlfriends car needs a clutch bad, really noisy throwout bearing, just gotta get around to doing it all
January 19, 2013 at 3:47 am #492920I keep my car clean and well maintained. I keep my fiances car well maintained but i only wash the outside because she hates me cleaning the inside. I feel that when I keep up with the maintenance I won’t end up spending an entire weekend fixing things I put off. I drive an 06 Subaru Baja and my Fiance drives an 08 Subaru Impreza. Which I think are very easy to maintain which makes my life easier.
August 11, 2013 at 10:12 am #538739I have two Mercedes a 05 C55AMG and a 06 SLK55AMG. I hate to work on my cars. what ever you do DONT by a car from me.
August 11, 2013 at 3:54 pm #538760I would love to keep my cars in showroom condition but I haven’t the money to do so. My cars always need something done but it has to get prioritized so that I can save up the money.
August 11, 2013 at 7:36 pm #538786I try to keep my 2007 Caravan in the best condition possible. I usually buy my vehicles used but under 100.00Kl (60.000 Mi) and 5 years. I change all of the lube fluids to synthetic, rustproof them and drive em to the grave.
The last 2 vehicles I had for 14 years each.
August 12, 2013 at 9:35 am #538918Actually, now that driving 35 miles one way to work everyday is a thing of the past, cars have been doing good mechanically, just need to change oil on both… Only major things I need to do eventually, paint on the one car, and something with the exhaust on the beater….
Kinda hard to do anything now with the new place, “No vehicle repairs unless it’s to get the vehicle off the property”… I miss having a garage, and being in the corporate world, kinda hard to utilize the work garage 🙁
August 22, 2013 at 6:51 am #540214my car runs, but im currently in the process of fixing some issue im having. luckily its summer and we have had nice weather for a couple weeks now so i ride my motorcycle to work everyday. way more fun than my car.
when the car is fixed though (new A/C-power steering-alternator belts, oil change, spark plugs and wires, timing belt and soon to be fuel filter) it will be in great operating condition. its been paid off for years. so i guess its time for some much needed tlc
August 26, 2013 at 10:19 pm #540796As soon as I started to make enough money to afford it (which happened a long time ago) I kept all my cars in nothing but top condition. I bought used cars in the best condition I could find regardless of how their price compares to other cars of the same model and year. Ended up with the most expensive ones of course so kept them for years then. Then I moved to another country, soon got paid well enough to afford brand new cars. So got new car for wife and new working van for myself. Paid off the car in two years and van payments were tax deductible, so it was almost like having it for free 🙂 . Had to sell them in 5 years, both in pretty much showroom condition, quite a loss but I was tempted by new job opportunity that required moving across the pond and from RHD to LHD, so there was no way or sense to take them cars here. Bought some 12 years old Honda CRV first, then, when got settled up a bit got myself a new small car, paid cash so no payments, no debt, almost no fuel expenses 🙂 – what else do you need to get to work and back?
I like to work on my own cars, it is sooo much different then working on all the customer’s ones, you can do it for pleasure, not for money. Unfortunately have no much time for doing it even if one of my conditions to take a job offer was that they allow me to work on my own cars in free time. So I prefer to have new cars – less problems, just a quick maintenance and swap tires twice a year.
Going to buy a new house within some foreseeable future and want to have a big garage in it, put my own lift inside so it would be MY OWN PLACE. Finally then I can take care of my cars without looking for some free time slot or staying after hours. My be will leave automotive then (its quite sucks anyway)August 27, 2013 at 6:41 am #540919I need to do some work on my truck. Right front hub needs to be replaced along with the front brakes. Both front O2 sensors are dead, so I’m currently running it in open loop with no MAF. Left rear axle seal is leaking, need to replace that along with the rear rotors and backing plates. Park brake cables are seized. Body needs done, rocker panels are almost obsolete on it. Hood needs to be replaced. God bless our salty roads here in Canada in the winter!!
Oh well its safe, looks good from far but far from good. I drive it around 55 miles per day at 80mph+ down the freeway. As long as it goes fast and can get me there and back in one piece I don’t really care about the cosmetics. If all goes as planned I will take it off the road for the winter, get something to drive over the winter and have it showroom condition when I put it back on the road in the spring.
August 29, 2013 at 8:37 am #541247I have a 96 dodge cummins diesel, everything but the engine is falling apart. Of course its spreading closer and closer. I try to maintain as much as possible but it cost so much for parts. Recently replaced fuel shutdown solenoid with relay and fusible links also a diode for the starter not to stick on, a new starter and just last week blew my turbo so I am currenty in the process of rebuilding the turbo. I’ve decided on buying a 4 banger or small car in general for ease of maintenance and better fuel economy until I become a millionaire to make the cummins a project
