      Hi,

I’m replacing the ignition coil on a 2000 Dodge Caravan, in order to fix a cylinder misfire I’ve narrowed down to this (probably). My only issue is, the electrical connector that supplies power to the coil is not one I’ve seen before, and I’m not sure how it comes off.

I’m afraid to yank on the thing due to the age of the engine for fear it’ll break. I’m thinking maybe some people here have seen these and know how they come off so I don’t risk snapping the plastic plug.

The red thing seen in the picture slides, and I’ve already moved it as far as it can go backwards, but the thing still won’t budge.

The coil is of course the box that the four plug wires are connected to. The electrical connection is on the right side of the coil from the perspective of facing the engine.

      Thanks!

you are right the way I have done it is pull the red lock tab out about half way then work on the pulling the connector. could be stuck with grime. look at the fuel injector connectors if visible I believe they have the same red lock.

another thing you might want toi do is check the auto parts and see if they have the part and you can see how the connecot is.. might help … some times if Im really worried I goto my jumk yard and try to take out the connector my self and see what happens …. just an other options

Well after some experimentation I got the thing loose. Turns out I was missing the little ‘lever’ in the middle that has to be pushed down while simultaneously pulling on the whole plug. Once I did that, the thing came right off.

Got my new coil and wires in and it’s runnin’ fine.

            Thanks guys.
