How To Repair A Broken Antenna

This happens a lot on these vehicles that have this type of antenna. I think this is the most economical way to deal with the problem. What do you think?

Eric, I’m surprised you didn’t snap a tap. FYI, you should back the tap 1/4 turn every 3/4 turn to break the chip being cut from the new thread. Otherwise there’s a good chance of snapping (good taps) or bending (cheap taps) the tap. Same with Dies too.

Interesting solution Eric, I would have replaced the connector with a female one compatible with that of the new antenna.
But, since it would have costed more I think you chose the most economical solution.

However I must admit that this kind of antenna , even if it is flexible as you’ve shown, will suffer a lot into a car wash.

I had a destructive experience with a similar antenna (but it was mounted on an orientable base) that got completely destroyed in a car wash.
However one can always unscrew it before going through the car washing tunnel and all will be well.

If I was going into steal I might agree with you but the metal was pretty soft so I didn’t feel there was any danger of breaking the tap.

I would have just bought an antennaless antenna for 5-20 bucks on ebay that plug into your head unit + 12volt line that you hide under the seat or something… people give them a bad rap because they hide them in the dash… but there is allot of electrical interference under there…

Then, if I was feeling creative, shark fin! Or body work…
