Well I’ve been working on a 95 Plymouth Voyager with the 3.0 Mitsubishi engine in it. First I couldn’t get the valve cover off because it was hitting one of the rockers. I solved that problem. Now I can’t seem to get the gasket out. I was able to remove about 3/4 of the gasket. However the methods that I used is not working. I used a screwdriver to push on JUST the gasket taking special care not to damage the cover.

I’ve been working on this portion for more than an hour now and I can’t seem to get anywhere. I’ve been applying the gasket remover but that doesn’t seem to be much help. They are using rubber gaskets. Any ideas?

I have been using gasket remover. Doesn’t really help much.

It’s a metal cover. Not sure what type of metal though. It is a rubber gasket.

A gasket scraper. An electric drill with a wire wheel or a
bench mount grinder with a wire wheel.

Yeah…sometimes those gaskets can turn to a rock like substance. What makes it worse is the fact that they are in a groove in the cover. They are pretty tough covers so a thin blade screwdriver and a hammer and you should be able to chip it out without doing any damage. The tough part is holding on to the cover while you work on it.

Just want to give an update. I ended up buying another can of gasket remover. This can now expires within this decade haha. It took some prying and elbow greese but I got it off eventually. Thanks again for all the help.
