How to perform engine flushes?

I have 2006 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with about 90k miles. I was thinking about doing an engine flush. Some shops do pressurized engine flushes. I’ve also heard that you could add diesel fuel or Kerosene to fill crankcase. Run motor 20 min at a slightly elevated RPM….then drain and replace filter and oil. Also there is a method where you add ATF to engine and run for 3000 miles or so. Any suggestions or guidelines on how this should be done.

Just curious… Why do you want to do an engine flush?

FWIW Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM and Nissan do not recommend an engine flush… I am sure the other manufactures agree, but cannot say for sure… Can cause more trouble that its worth… But, its your car….

Best is to use stuff that is designed for that. Or use diesel for cheaper alternative. Put it just before oil change keep rpms up but use throttle gently. Don’t drive it! Then just change oil.

But you should only do it if there is need for that. For example if your engine has tendency to block piston oil return holes then you could use it either to clean already blocked holes or to use it as an precaution.

I believe you also asked this on FB. That said, my answer is the same. I do not recommend engine flushes, especially as a maintenance practice. It’s really not necessary and can actually cause damage to your engine if not done correctly. If you change your oil on a regular basis, there should be no need to do an engine flush or anything like it.
