more information might help. year Make model engine size. I assume if you replace the engine and trans with the same units you wont have to reprogram.

thats what i thought. 2000 impala 3.4, same engine being swaped, everything. i just dont know if there is any internal chip that tells the ecm its a differnt engine.

You have to have a high end scan tool given to you, and free training on how to use. Unless it sets a code I wouldn’t worry abut it.

It shouldn’t. I put a motor in a century about 6 months ago and didn’t do any of that. It may set a correlation code, if that happens it will have to be calibrated, I wouldn’t think it’d be more than a half hour to 7/10 hour job, that’s about what i get paid to do it. It’s simple to do if you have the equipment (that’s the crappy thing)

i can borrow a scan tool to do that right?

If you mean borrow as in load one from a parts store, I highly doubt their scanners can do that, most places just have a code reader. You will have to find someone willing to lend a high end scan tool. If ya can’t to the dealer ya go.

No problem, I honestly we just start it and see how it goes if it doesn’t set a correlation code you’ll be fine. The engine will turn and run, it has to be running to do the procedure.

+1 Swap the engine and then see if you have a problem. If you don’t have a problem move on.
