I want to get LED Daytime Running lights for my car. I already know where to hook it up as far as wiring. What I DON’T know how to do is this:

I looked up the Wiring in my car and i know that the Pink Wire is the IGN ON wire. I would tap onto the PINK wire so the DRLs turn on automatically when i start the car. However because they are DRLs ONLY I ALSO want to wire them up so when i turn on the headlights that the DRLs shut off. I was thinking If I hooked the Positive of the LEDs to the a pink wire and the negitive to a dash brown/white wire (Wire that turns on dash lights) that once the lights are turned on they DRLs would turn off. Would this work?

My original plan was to wire it to the cigarette lighter but then if in the ACC position the DRLs will be on. Now that I know what wire is the IGN ON wire i will tap into that.

I wouldn’t wire the LEDs directly as you described. The current draw from the LEDs may cause electrical issues for other components in the system. Instead, use a relay that is connected to an ignition power source and is triggered (open, DRLs off) by the headlight switch. There is probably a DRL harness kit available that serves this purpose.

hmm. I’ll look into that. I assumed the low-current draw from LEDs wouldn’t hurt the wiring by tapping into it
