this is mostly about 6 volt flashers that are hard to come by or different lights. the 12 volt relays are anywhere from 3 to 20 dollars. I couldn’t find a working 6 volt relay for my bike so i tried fixing it myself. here are the steps (sorry no pictures) they will be in first to last order.
– remove the relay and open it. if it is the round metal style you can open the top portion with a manual can opener a flat head screwdriver and a vise. you use the can opener to break the lip off the whole way around but a screwdriver works better after you start it with a can opener.
-break a section of metal free with a manual can opener. put it in a vise with a light grip you will have to turn it and put the screwdriver on the lip and hit it with your hand to bend the metal off after you do this all the way around you should be able to pull the relay out.
-with the relay out, try bending it and filing the small heat wire. this will take time and finesse but it should work after a while. if you fail, it didn’t work anyway.
-after you get it to work, file the sharp edges off the metal casing. i used a bench grinder for this but a file or sand paper should work just as well just take longer.
reattach it. i put a small amount of rtv silicone and left the rubber gasket out and used a rubber band to temporarily hold it until the rtv set then i reinstalled it. (i left the rubber band on but it will degrade) so you could take it off if you want to
reinstall and you’re done!
