I replaced the left drive shaft seal on my Yaris 4 months ago because it was leaking. I’ve done around 6,000 miles since then. It has around 75,000 miles on the odometer.

I used a genuine Toyota seal and it stopped leaking.

After the fix, I kept an eye on it. Today, I noticed that its leaking again from the same place. Its leaking much worse than before. I won’t be driving it until I can fix it because I don’t want to leave oil puddles everywhere I park.

Should I replace the seal again or look into something else?
How would I check if the output bearing in the differential/trans is worn?
If the bearing is worn, should I get a replacement transmission ready?

Check all directions of movement where the inner cv portion goes into the transaxle. It should be firm with very little movement. Also if you did not do it before, try to get a new oil seal from Toyota. I have had issues before with fitment of aftermarket seals.

I’ll check for movement today. I replaced the seal with a new Toyota one very recently.

Did you pre-lube the new seal? Was the shaft clean and undamaged?
