Hi, first post. The videos are great.

I just bought a 1997 Ford Ranger that doesn’t have power steering or AC. It was meant as a weekend runner but now I’m getting a little obsessed with it and may change out the bench seat, etc… just little tweaks because it’s mine 🙂

Here’s the first problem. I’m not mechanical at all, but I have common sense and logic. I can change oil, belts if needed, that sort of thing. I was told that adding power steering to the truck may not be that hard as long as I just get all the right parts. I wish there was a tutorial for it somewhere but Im sure the request is not common.

Could someone tell me exactly what parts I would need, and if there are any walkthroughs for this sort of thing, I’d love to know where they are. Maybe this is something Eric could answer?

      Thanks in advance…
      Mike

For the age of the truck the outlay cost wise probably isn’t worth it, but you’ll need the power steering pump all the hydraulic lines a new steering rack as well as the reservoir that’s for the conventional Power steering system you might be able to get an electric power steering conversion kit but it’ll probably cost you more than you paid for the car.

For the AC again parts wise you’ll need an AC compressor a condenser all the piping into the Hvac new heater control faceplate maybe even a new heater control module. those are the main components I cant think of the top of my head

You will also need to program these into the car and I highly doubt any garage will do it so you’d need to get the correct software in order to reprogram the ECU.

All in all Honestly unless the Truck has some significant sentimental attachment to you Selling it and buying another in the spec you desire would be the best bet.

I guess I would have to agree then. If it’s not going to be 100.00 +/- a little I can’t say I’d be interested in putting crazy money into the car…

Would it be worth swapping out the bench for better seats at least? My bench is crushed from the previous owner’s fat ass.

Seeing as the Ranger came with Power steering and AC if you really loved the car Buying one with the options you need will be the least hassle while it’s certainly not impossible to retro fit it all it’s not really something to be taken on unless you want to spend the time and money on it.

Sure the seats would be worth doing Just find a nice set at the salvage yard or on ebay.
