I used to own and drive two late 70’s Trans Ams. The front springs – well, actually all the springs, were crap but the fronts were the worst. It didn’t take too many miles of driving until you found yourself sliding off the front seat. They had big heavy nasty coil springs. I probably replaced springs in those cars half a dozen times. Somewhere in my garage is the spring compressor I used. If I run on to it, it is going in the trash. Tools subjected to that much stress should only be used so many times.
Those things scare me and for good reason. In school I watched one let go and a spring go flying. When I need a spring removed I go see a buddy of mine who spent a mint on a spring compressing unit that locks to a vise.
