I’m in the process of pulling heads on my 3800 after a botched stud extraction.

I pulled the front, cleaned off all the gasket material and took a break. On the news I find out a about this freak costal snow storm and were on track for about 10 inches of snow.

Ive covered all open areas if the block and deck with paper towels and fully lowered the hood and also haven’t removed and gasket material from the deck.

However this is my first head gasket job and I want everything to go smoothly as possible. I’m also getting the heads milled and cracks welded.

I have no clue what turnaround time is right now as I’m waiting for the machine shop to call back with a quote, and now I’m concerned about rust forming if it’s at all possible for moisture to make it between the remaining gasket material and deck.

You will generally see rust in a couple of days depending if you are in a wet or humid area. It is always best to spray some light oil on the surface.
It can be easily wiped up and cleaned off a can of brake cleaner.
