how do you tell if you have a bad strut bearing?

i have two cars 2003 cavalier and a 2005 cobalt on my cavalier checked over all the front end and it’s tight but im still hearing a clunk. and in my cobalt when i turn the steering wheel the nut is going up alot and down is there any other ways to check them?

when you turn the wheels see if the bearings are noisy
or making noise. you could jack up the front end to do this.
