I was trying to replace my thermostat in my car. When I was torquing it down, the bolt just snap. So half the bolt is in my socket and the other half (the treads) is sticking out of the housing. Any way to take it out?

      Kinda looks like this:

Look up Stud remover or Stud puller. If you can get enough of a bite on the remaining stud, and have room to get the socket in (See below), these are very effective at removing stuck/broken studs. When turned to the left the internal cams grab and lock onto the sides of the stud. They can be turned by a wrench from the side or a ratchet at the top…

Many places sell sets that have sockets for different sized studs that look like this in metric and SAE:

That looks easy enough that you could just use vice grips.

Often, once the bolt head snaps off and the stress on the threads is gone on the remaining part, it unscrews very easily, sometimes with fingers only.

Knipex cobra pliers grip better than anything ive ever used, i would try them first before going to more extreme methods.

I’m thinking vice grips in your situation. This video might also be helpful. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Thank you so much guys (and sorry for the late reply) fixed the problem a few days ago. I used penetration oil and vice grip and got it to come out. I thought my heart was going to jump off my chest. lol
                    Once again, thanks!

I agree with using a large pair of vice grip to take it out.
