Hey yall,
I am working on a friends 2002 honda s2000. I am having a weird electrical issue and I have diagnosed to the extent of my knowledge. The problem is that sometimes (maby once every 10 or 15 starts), the abs light comes on, the HVAC controls do not work, and the radio does not work. If you restart the car, everything works fine. The problem only occurs on start up, never after the engine is already running. I have looked at wiring diagrams for hours trying to figure it out. The first thing I thought of was a bad ground but none of the involved systems shared a ground and all the grounds I checked were fine. I also looked for bad wiring and found none, everything looks oem. Hopefully one of the Honda guys will have some input. Thanks for any help,

Not a Honda guy but many of the electrical components work in “RUN” by signal from the ignition switch being in the run position. These components like the AC have a relay that disables them during start. I would look in that direction.

It sounds like it might be a control unit or control unit communication issue. In a perfect world you’d have a Honda HDS to check the communications with the BCAN to see if it was working properly. One thing to check would be all the fuses. I’ve seen issues with connections at the fuses sometimes so be sure to ‘wiggle’ them while the engine is running to see if you can get things to act up. Come to think of it try wiggling some of the wires and connectors as well. Sometimes this ‘test’ yields results.
