Honda passport shifter problems

I have a 01 Passport that is very temperamental about getting out of Park. Most times you can wiggle it as your holding in the button and it will work, but it is very annoying. It has been looked at in the past by the dealer and a local tech, but what are some suggestions on fixing it once and for all?

My car does the same thing, It won’t stay in gear & I have to force into gear. I was told by a mechanic That it was stretched wire in the steering colum. I’m thinking that your’s should be under the shifter, if replaced the wire that’s damage it should fix the problem.
