Hi there, I have a Honda Odyssey 2001 vtec RA6 2.3 146.300Km with Idle problem and also is running rich. (the last scanner said that)
I’ve tried everything described in this forum and another sites.

I looked up for vacuum leak
I cleaned the throttle body (even I replaced it for another one, second hand)
      I cleaned the IACV valve
I replaced all the spark plugs
I checked with a multi tester the MAP sensor and Oxygen Sensor
The voltage of the map sensor at idle is 1.30 and when I accelerate the engine change to 2.6 or higher
The oxygen sensor show 20 ohms

I’ve spent more than $500 puting my car in garage and no one can fix the problem at the moment
so I started to research about it by my self.

Any idea or advice about it??

PS: when the car reach the working T° the rpm go down til 300.

      Thanks

What codes do you have? Some things that come to mind right away are low engine vacuum(possible needs valve adjustment), EGR flow at idle, Jumped timing belt, fuel pressure. Lets just start with what codes you have and go from there.

          +1 on Codes

Also you gave an Ohm reading for an O2 sensor. Ohm checks are not really a valid way of testing anything except a resistor (like the O2 heater but not the O2 itself…even then I would still prefer a current waveform of the heater on a scope over an ohm check). There are so many ways that an ohm check can mislead you.

Again +1 on EGR…if your EGR is opening at idle it’ll definitely bog down rpms to 300 like you said or stall the engine completely. Of course, without codes or anything else for me to go on it’s just a random guess.

I don’t know what’s the codes because the guy from the garage never told me about the codes.
He just said the car is running rich and the oxygen sensor was sending wrong information to the computer of the car.

Checking the resistance of an o2 sensor is a reliable and common way to diagnose. I would call a Honda dealer with your Vin number. There were a few early 2000 Odysseys that had issues like this. Many times a software update fixed it.

Thanks, I will take a look to the EGR valve.

My car is year 2001, do you think that a software update could fix this?

It’s possible. I remember reading something about it in Mitchell” a while ago. A coworker was trying to diagnose an Odyssey with similar issues. I would call the dealer and see if your car requires it.

Thanks you very much guys for all your comments. The EGR valve was my problem. I cleaned it completely
and my car runs smooth again now.
