      hello

I have been researching this for a while and have quite a fair bit of experience with engines however I am a bit stomped with this engine.

I have a B18C JDM engine for a 94 integra gsr and I would like an expert on acuras to best answer this if possible.

I know that hondas are known for leaking oil in the valve cover gasket and cam seals and possible the oil pan gasket depending on the situation. I have noticed oil on the the engine stamp where it says b18c on the left side of the engine facing the front of the car. I am almost positive that it cannot be the head gasket where the oil is leaking however it looks to be that it is leaking from underneath the head and on top of the block, I have not done a floriscent dye leak test yet however I would like some advice from an acura mechanic if possible.

If when you say ‘left’ you mean the passenger side above the transmission then it’s likely to be the distributor ‘o’ ring. It’s a very common leak on Honda’s of that vintage.

I looked at the distributor and it doesnt seem to leak from there , however I do suspect the solenoid gasket and filter to be where it is leaking from and possibly the cam cap/plug next to it.

            What are your thoughts Eric???

I’ve seen the VTEC solenoid gaskets leak from time to time so it’s not out of the question. I’ve also seen plenty of valve cover leaks. As for the valve cover don’t coat the entire surface with RTV, just a little on the corners where the cam ‘humps’ are will do just fine. BTW the Fram valve cover gaskets for Honda engines are crap. OE would be best.

                dupokulips,
I am interested in your results, as I have recently noticed a similar oil leak in the same area of my 98 Integra; However, it’s an RS, & there’s no Vtec solenoid…

I have already replaced the valve cover gasket. – Maybe Cam seal?

I will post the results once I return from the holidays with pics, ect and perform the florescent dye test. As it stands I believe the leak is coming from the solenoid gasket but that is just assuming by looking at where oil is currently observed from the dye test will confirm if im right. I will post as soon as I can.

                  cheers

I just remembered about the cam seal on the exhaust cam being an issue on those. In fact they have an updated seal that you install in place of the old one that has a plastic plug with an ‘o’ ring on it. Get the OE part as they are much better than the aftermarket ones and not that expensive.

No I do not however an Acura parts dealer should know exactly what you’re talking about as it is a very common leak.
