Hi guys,
The wife’s honda fit recently made a 1000 mile round trip.
Initially the car would only hiccup while at a stop light, and I do mean hiccup — idle perfectly fine and then hiccup– and back to idle at 900rpm perfectly fine.Well, on the trip we noticed that it didn’t much like gently accelerating up the hills. It happened alot around where the auto-overdrive usually engaged to the point where I was wondering if it the torque converter was locking and unlocking and the locking up again 1- 2 times in quick succession, because the trans had alot of trouble figuring out what gear it belonged in during the hill climb… but then it started doing it in 2nd and 3rd gear too, usually between 1-3k rpm, and usually when gently accelerating but with a little throttle added to make it up a hill.
0 issue when the accelerator is stomped on, and anything over 3k rpm i’ve never experienced a hiccup.
This Fit seems to pull just as hard as my 98 civic under hard acceleration so its not a noticeable malfunction when under hard accelerationOddly, the car got 38mpg the whole trip and and through the Vermont mountains, but only did 33 on the way home. (some additional traffic so maybe that was it…) I would’ve thought that a missing engine would get crap mileage.
The plugs are the Denso iridium, and the one I checked (this engine bay is so cramped….) looked just fine.
The one idea I have aside from the fuel filter and pump — as seen in here http://www.ericthecarguy.com/kunena/8-Service-and-Repair-Questions-Answered-Here/32220-engine-hesitation-when-accelerating —-
was to start checking the spark coils any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
