      Hi Guys / Eric
I have a Honda Accord 1993 with an F22a Engine. I am not stuck with anything, but more after some knowledgeable advice… I am keen to know what oil, and what grade would be best for me to use. I have always used 10W – 40 (Castrol Magnatec) in my engine, and it has 268,000km. Its in good running shape and I recently did the valve stem seals so doesn’t eat up much oil. I have heard Honda run 10w-30. I just want to know how you guys go about the API Ratings… The Service Manual for my car states that the Rating should be an SF or SG. But I understand the terms have changed. I have run Castrol Magnatec without any issues and the API Rating for that is API SN/CF. Just want to get the right idea on oils. Cheers

I just follow what’s on the oil cap or owner’s manual/service manual. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

I believe that engine should take 5W30. I believe the oil that you’re using is too thick and can cause top end damage if you continue to run it, especially in colder weather. The engineers spent a lot of time figuring out what oil to run in their engine, going outside of that is never a good idea.
