      HI Guys,

I have a 1996 Honda Del Sol that recently starting making a “sucking” noise as I turn the car off. I don’t notice it much while it’s running, idle is fine, and it seems to run just as good as normal. The car is 100 percent stock, but it sounds just like my brother’s eclipse that has a cold air intake when he turns it off. Can this be some kind of vacuum leak? I can’t remember if it happened before or after I changed the thermostat a few days ago.

Also, I watched the video for bleeding a cooling system, but the d16y8 in my car doesn’t seem to have a bleeder and I can’t find a straight up answer on how to go about getting air out of the system. Any thoughts?

      thanks!

The sucking sound could well be a vacuum leak.

Get a spray bottle with a bit of water in it, start the engine up, and spray around the intake manifold, air inlet pipes, and vacuum lines, paying special attention to areas near the thermostat that you replaced recently. If you hear a difference in the way the engine runs, or a change in the sucking sound, you have found a problem, get a closer look and see if you can isolate the exact culprit.

As for bleeding the cooling system, if you don’t have a bleeder screw (and a lot of cars do not) simply skip to the part where the big funnel comes in, and do that.
