+ 1 on the above. also if the starter is a rebuilt one you may have a bad unit and the bendix is not retracting properly.

Yeh, shimming the starter definitely sounds like the problem. Did you have any come out with the old starter? Shims are just small plates that attach between the starter and the block. I’m pretty sure Eric has a video about it. Lemme look.

There you go. Good luck man.

              Does the starter use shims?
The new starter may have to be shimmed.

It sounds like you’ll have to pull it back off but, first recheck all the connections.

look on the old starter. maybe the shims got stuck there. also did you compare the two starters side by side
                to compare size?

Also, how did you diagnose the starter as being the issue? Did you have the battery load tested?

Here is also a great video on voltage drop testing on a starter circuit. This will rule out any excessive resistance in the wiring if that’s the case –

+1 on what everyone above said.

I’ll add that you don’t want to be using it like this for too long because one of the possibilities is it may be chewing up the ring gear – that would be bad.

I would suggest posting your question in the correct section of the forums.

To my knowledge that starter does NOT use shims however if it’s a reman part that could be the issue OR the installation. One thing I always try and do when installing one of those is to make sure the starter is seated properly when you run the fasteners down, if you draw the starter up by the fasteners you run the risk of it being misaligned when you tighten it down. Also avoid ‘cheep’ parts especially for Honda’s as they often don’t work out.
