      Hi all,

      2005 Honda CRV – Automatic – 2.4L i-VTEC (K24A1) – No engine code – 282,000km

I’m having dramas tracking down the source of another oil leak on this engine. This is the third one since Jan, seems to be leaking like a sieve. First was the VTEC solenoid which threw an engine code (fixed), then the oil pressure switch started leaking which was also fixed and now I have another leak which appears to be coming from the crank pulley region and running down onto the oil pan and lower control arm. Can’t see anything leaking from above the engine following Eric’s guide on finding leaks (work from top down), just appears to be around the crank pulley/ lower front engine area.

On top of that I’m noticing some odd behavior, turning over longer before starting from cold, fuel usage is up, fluctuating idle when warm plus near-stalling at idle, low oil pressure for a couple of seconds after a cold start (oil light remains on for a few seconds).

I’ve got the day off tomorrow so I can jack it up and provide some pictures and also have another general look around. Any advice would be appreciated.

      Cheers.

Might have a close look at the front main seal.

Sorry guys for the late reply.

Jacked it up and had a closer look, at first it did look like a front main seal had gone but upon closer inspection it is leaking from further up. To the right hand side of the crank pulley is considerably ‘wetter’ and is definitely leaking from a bolted cover way up near the valve cover (just underneath it, adjacent to the power steering pump, refer to pictures). I also suspect the the chain case cover could be leaking as well, what do you guys reckon? Any suggestions?

          Cheers.

Might suggest you wash the front of the engine to start with.
Then let it run and look for the first area that shows oil.
In any case it would appear you’ll be needing to do some disassembly on the front of the motor for a seal and/or gasket R&R
