I have a 2000 Honda Civic Si that I attempted a repair on that did not work and the crankshaft bolt broke off and tore the keyway out and I am considering it unrepairable. The owner does not care about the performance factor of this car and would like me to find any compatable motor and install it. I am needing to know what honda motors will fit in this.any ideas out there ? Too bad as the whole car and engine and tranny are in great shape.

If the majority of the bolt head broke off, you may be in luck. Just spray some penetrating oil on and around the bolt and see if you can twist it off. As the torque pressure is on the head itself and not the rest of the body.

It should have a B16B in it if I’m not mistaken. You would have to go through classified where the local tuners list parts for sale, but there should be plenty around for a decent price. You just have to find where they’re hiding.

Once you get into changing the motor, you open yourself up to any number of other issues from annoying ones, like a connector not being in the right place to the ECU just refusing to properly operate. That being said, any engine with the saem orientation should bolt right in. Probably won’t work without throwing more money at it. But it will fit.

Thanks but the bolt broke off about half an inch in the crank hole and drilling it with the engine in the car would be a daunting task to day the least and like I said that keyway is ripped out bad anyhow. Wonder what the motor may be worth as is as it runs great. Harmonic balanners cost 270 thru honda and I ruined one in the process.

If the entire head is off and just the shaft of the bolt is in there, then it will come right out unless the threads got stripped some how, but that would be unlikely. All you need to is get some grip on it and it will come right out. You won’t need to drill it. Just spray some penetrating oil and let it sit. As for the key, you can get a harmonic balancer at autozone for about $100 or just go to the junkyard.
