Hello all, just wondering how to go about diagnosing my power window issue in my driver side door. The “auto function” is where the problem lies. It works if I hold down the window button, but if I press it once and try to let it automatically lower, it tends to stop mid way. Any suggestions?

Have you tried resetting the auto function yet?

The way these work is a bit of a kludge. The auto function works by monitoring the motor current and shutting off the motor relay when the motor current goes Sky high, like when the motor stalls due to the window having gone as far as it can go. But the current can go high for other reasons, like excessive friction in the track, or a failing motor. You can try reducing the track friction with a little silicone spray and that may help. But often the problem is excess drag due to a worn out gears or worn or rusty actuator rack, or a bad motor. Good luck.

is it possible that it’s a bad relay?

Not likely, the relay either works or doesn’t. If it is engaging, and going part way down it is more likely that the tracks are dirty / sticking, or there is an issue with the regulator.

If the auto feature is built into the window motor.
Then its most likely the window motor.

Sounds like you need to do the reset procedure. Put the window all the way up. Press and hold the down switch. Even after the window reaches the end of it’s travel, keep holding the button down for 5 seconds. Then pull the switch up and hold it for 5 seconds after it closes. Now try the auto function. It should work like it’s suppose to.

                  Keep us posted.
