      Hi,

I just finished chaning the belt on my ’96 spec Integra Type R and am worrying if I got the belt tight enough – I have the Acura Integra manual and I followed the procedure from that.

Please see the video below – Is is normal to have that slight amount of slack between the cam pulleys as one rotates round and overcomes valve spring tension?

I followed the manual to the letter. :S

In fact, I took the belt off several times and re-did everything. Brand new OE tensioner & tensioner spring too.

      P.S car runs fine.

looks like to much slack. check that you have the right belt. The non vtec has a
shorter belt. Parts place may have given you the wrong belt.

This is a B18C Type R engine and the belt is correct, I’ve double checked the part number.

when i do timing belt on b series, i make sure all the markings are in sync and then sit the tbelt on top of the cams, you can use 2 drill bits 5mm in size and lock the cams in position there are holes on the top of the camshaft covers, the silver plates that go over the cams.

Then after i put the drill bits in place tbelt on top of the cams and cable tie them through the cam sprockets so they dont move at all then go over the water pump and install it on the crank, all the left over slack goes over the tensioner, the spring on the tensioner usally takes care of the slack but if they springs on there for a while it looses tension thru head cycles, so i get a pry bar under the tensioner and give it bit more tension.

The longest straight on the tbelt then should have a 90 degree turn to it not too tight not too loose.

            Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks. I don’t mean to sound disrespectful but you’re not telling me anything I don’t already know.

Perhaps as you’ve done a few b series belts you can tell me if when you crank the engine, by hand with spark plugs in, that you see the same amount of slack between the cam gears as in my video?? :-S

I guess Eric is way to busy to reply here but would be pretty awesome if he could help out. I did pay for the V-manual haha. Not enough info on the tension.
