      Hey all,
I have a 1998 v6 Honda Accord that I recently purchased. I need to change the transmission fluid but I can’t find the Honda Atf DW-1 anywhere in town and can only find it from somewhat legit sources on ebay or something like that. Does anyone know where I can find the stuff from a good source? Thanks in advance.

The Z1 fluid was discontinued, so it might be difficult to find now. The DW1 fluid is its successor and is “backwards compatible”.

Hanneman do you know where to find the DW-1? Or do you know of any trustworthy websites to buy from?

Amazon sells the genuine Honda brand DW-1 .
If you have Prime, it pays.
If not, a Honda dealer may be the better option.

Ditto to BonnieMan. My local Honda dealership has the best price on fluids when shipping is factored into the cost. Not surprisingly, the Acura dealership has an additional markup.

There are several Honda and Acura dealerships that have an online store. Handa Accessories is one that is well-regarded.

I believe aftermarket Honda/Acura specific ATF exists, Valvoline or Beck-Arnley, but I’ve never seen it at the stores.

One such online Honda parts store selling genuine OEM Honda supplies I have personally used is Honda Parts Unlimited, with a link to their DW-1 here:

                  https://www.hondapartsunlimited.com/oem-parts/honda-fluid-atf-dw-1-082009008

For what it’s worth, when I changed the transmission fluid on my wife’s 07 Kia Sportage, I bought Castrol Transmax Import Multi-Vehicle ATF in order to meet Kia’s SP-III requirement; when I noticed on the back of the bottle that this fluid says it will work in Honda vehicles calling for DW-1 ATF. Now I personally am using DW-1 in my Honda and haven’t used or known of anyone using this fluid in their Honda, but it was on sale for $5/quart at my local Advance Auto. If I’m wrong in thinking this to be a suitable aftermarket substitute, please correct me!

                  Good luck!

Valvoline MaxLife ATF has a large loyal following among Honda owners. I’ve been using it in my ’05 Pilot and ’98 CRV for quite a few years now without a single issue. IMO, it’s better than Honda’s fluid(it’s a synthetic) and it’s a fraction of the price. WalMart used yo sell it in the stores but you can only buy it on their online site now. It’s around $17.50/gal and you get free shipping if you order two containers. I’m not sure if they ship it direct to your house because the two times I’ve ordered it I went into the store to their Pick Up desk and got it.
