      Hello,
I have an Acura TL 2000 model on which I decided to change the timing belt last week.
I bought the video manual from you which was fairly helpful, but I had also done a lot of youtube video research on my own before. Anyway, now I have a weird CEL problem, (only one error code P0336) and was wondering if you can help me. Here are some important things about the timing belt change I should mention:

      * I do have the Honda crank pulley socket, but the crank bolt wasn’t coming loose with my breaker bar, so I used the trick of “quick ignition crank” which broke the bolt loose first try. Not sure if this would have damaged any “flywheel teeth” or anything, but I saw someone mentioning in an Acura forum that replacing flywheel on his manual transmission which got rid of the P0336 error code.

      * After putting the TB back on, the car started up fine, idled nicely, but threw error code on acceleration, followed by what looks like misfire or stall.

      * Since then I have opened the timing belt covers several times, one time, after installing the belt, I fired her back up without installing the crank pulley. Again she started up nicely, I pressed on the accelerator slightly to rev the engine up and down, when I head a sounds of something rattling loose. Stopped the engine immediately and noticed the woodruff key had fallen off the crank pulley and the timing marks were misaligned.

      * I was worried I had bent the valves, but decided to put everything back together again and she fired up and idles nicely again. Makes me believe I didn’t bent any valves.

*The error code P0336 is back, so thinking I somehow spilled coolant over the old sensor, opened everything back again and replaced the CKP sensor with a new one only to find out the error code still repeats itself.

I am completely stumped as to what the h*ll is going on with this car. Please let me know if you have any ideas?

      Thanks,
      Binto

I have since fixed the car, holding fingers crossed. Basically I had to re install the timing belt. When installing a new belt, it goes on pretty tight, so I used some tricks to get it on. I started with the idler pulley very loose (as per the manual), line up the three marks, route the belt with no slack anywhere except at the tensioner pulley, tighten the idler pulley and then pull the pin on the tensioner. I think this method may have resulted in the crankshaft turning one tooth as the idler is tightened against what is already no slack. This time, I did pretty much the same thing, except started with the idler pulley only 5-6 turns loose (instead of liberally being so). After I put everything on, the car still threw an error code of p0335 but that was because I had not connected the CKP tightly at the connector to the back of the engine. I had to do this by feel so I probably didn’t get it to click in place. After everything was in the car fired up and idled nicely, no error codes. i took it to work, after about 10 miles of driving and pulling back into my driveway, it turned off suddenly, with no engine codes. It had difficulty starting up and it idled with what sounded like a mini diesel engine with a bit of a hum. I let it idle for sometime, it seemed to get better so I took it back to work again and back, no engine codes or issues so far and the idle is smooth and quiet. Maybe the interim glitch had to do with ECU relearn, I skipped this step thinking eventually it will learn anything it needs to learn when I have driven it back and forth a few times. The manual you have posted looks very detailed. Would be great to have if it throws any error in the future. Thank you for paying attention to my post.
