Like the title states, my car have being experiencing rough idle during cold starts. The rpm slowly dips to about 250 rpm and hovers there for about two seconds then it spikes to over 1000 rpm. Then it dips to 250 then jumps to 1000. But once the car is all warmed up and driving, the idle remains steady around 750. I discovered the problem on Tuesday.
Fast forward to today, I started up my car so I can move it to a better spot so I can wash it. About 20 seconds in fast idle, the shudders as the rpm slowly dips to about 250 then it regulates itself to fast idle. I reposition the car and I notice the car struggling to maintain normal idle speed as it shudders while in reverse. I put the car in park and the engine shudders as the load was release from the engine. The shuddering continues, as the temperature guage starts to raise and the rpm is still about 1000 when it suppose to be about 750. Concerned, I whipped out the scan tool and it picked up a P0132.
Now I’m wondering what can I do to repair this problem so I can clear the code or the code and the rough idles are two different problems that reared it’s ugly head at the same time.

Repair the error code first and go from there. O2 sensor or wiring problem.

Check for vacuum leaks. It seems to be hunting. Your o2 sensors are not used until they get to operating temperature.

You can use carb cleaner to propane and smoke. I personally use water in a spray bottle. Just spray around intake/head gaskets, hoses. Anywhere unwanted air can get in. Have a visual look at hoses for dry rot or cracking. Some people have an ear for it as well, depends where and how big the leak is it could be audible. Listen for changes to how the engine is running. When a leak is found the rpm and idle will change.

Also check/clean the maf sensor or any unwanted air between that and the throttle body

                Some addition information:
I went to start the car to run an errand. I cranked the car, release the key and it didn’t run. I tried again and same result. I tried for the third time with a little gas assist and it roared to life.

Also, I doubt that it’s related but the car was at the dealership for an engine reseal. Rear main seal was replaced, oil pan gasket was replaced, VTEC solenoid was replaced, distributor was replaced, new water pump and the timing belt was replaced. Again, I don’t know if it is related but the problem started the day after I got the car back.

It is definately related. It could and probly is the timing. Thanks for mentioning that. Anytime a failure happens after work has been performed, you always go back to what was recently done. In this case engine work, and the engine now fails to run properly. Take it back to where the work was done

That’s is what I feared. 🙁 Very well then

Good news. It turns out that my problems were simple fixes. The P0132 was triggered because of a bad connection. When they reseal the engine, they cleaned it the exterior as well and some of the fluid dripped into the connector. All I have to do is to remove the water and everything should be fine.
As for the rough idle during cold start, I was told that my existing code, P0401, is causing the rough idle. However, he told to me to bring the car back to the dealer and let it sit so he can examine the engine’s behavior during the cold start.
So far, the engine is behaving for now. Since I’m working through the weekend, I’m finally planning on cleaning the EGR ports on Monday. Hopefully that can fix the idle problem. If that doesn’t fix it, I’m screwed.
