Hi
The service connector on my Honda Accord 2.0i, 4 Cyl, 1996 is a 5 pin – this is the only connector found under the glove box compartment. My workshop manual, original Honda workshop, shows a 2 pin connector.
Does anybody knows what pins to bridge to read error codes or how to extract the codes.
Many Thanks

you need an OBD II A code scanner to read what the engine codes are, most autozones and places like that will scan the car for free.

September 17, 2012 at 9:15 am #464736The connector will be under the dash on the driver’s side most likely. It’s a 16 pin connector and is shaped like a trapezoid. I don’t even know what a trapezoid is, so maybe ignore that. It’s longer on one edge than the opposing edge.

That pic should give you a general idea.
September 17, 2012 at 9:22 pm #464793Thanks but I have a different type of connector – mine is a 5 pin blue connector, see photos.
Its located on the left hand side under the glove compartment (please note this a right hand drive – UK spec).Unfortunately we havent got the Autozone facility in UK.:(
September 17, 2012 at 9:31 pm #464796My bad man. I didn’t realize yours was a European car. I personally can’t help, but I might know someone that can.
September 17, 2012 at 10:52 pm #464800That was the year for the change from OBD to OBDII could that have been an early release model that still had an OBD connector? My only OBD Honda connector only has 3 pins but there may be a second one with 5 I’m not sure. My son has a ’95 Chevy Camaro with the OBD II connector.

September 18, 2012 at 2:34 am #464812in general for Honda anyway, Here are the dates to keep in mind.
OBD 0 (non-obd) 87-91
OBD 1 92-95
OBD 2 A 96-98
OBD 2 B 99-now.September 18, 2012 at 2:35 am #464813[quote=”onyx” post=31227]Here is a picture of the OBD II A to OBD II B connector. Hondas OBD II A connector was 5 pin till 99 when they went OBD II B
Also i believe most OBD II scanners will have the correct adapter. but don’t quote me on that just depends on the manufacture that put it out.

Would you happen to have a source for the pin out for the 5 pin to the OBD II?

I will purchase the adaptor and the scanner – was looking for an excuse to buy an OBD scanner 🙂
Will let you know if it works
Cheers to all

September 24, 2012 at 8:56 pm #465178Honestly I don’t believe the DLC for that vehicle is located under the glove box and I’m not sure that 5pin adapter will help you. First I think they put the DLC behind the ashtray or perhaps a coin tray in your vehicle and if not it may be located on the left side of the console. Pre 99 those connectors were all over the place. Given that you may have a right drive your 2 pin blue connector may be located on the right side below the steering column. In fact I think this would be your best bet as jumping that would be easier than purchasing a special tool. Here is a video where I show the location of that connector. Don’t worry that you don’t have the same vehicle because just about all Honda’s of this vintage have this connector.
September 26, 2012 at 9:15 pm #465408Hi Eric
Watched the video and went and looked for the connector. I found a Yellow 2-pin connector with a yellow sleeve. I couldnt locate a blue connector.
I think this is the SRS reset connector and not the Service connector – but I could be 100% wrong and lately I seem to be more wrong than right ( its those senior moments you know 😆 ).
I have attached a photo of the connectorAttachments: - AuthorReplies
