Sounds like it could be a bad idler pulley or power steering pump or alternator.

My recommendation is to remove the PS pump belt and alternator belt and run for a few minutes.

The PS Pump belt is super easy to remove, just loosen the left bolt under the pump that’s on a long screw, then undo the bolt on the top a few turns and hit the pump a few times with a rubber hammer. Then keep loosening the bolt and tap with hammer until the PS pump has dropped down about 1/2 an inch and the belt should slip off no problem.

It’s difficult to tell in the video if I’m honest, it COULD be a tensioner issue but that engine actually has 2 since it also has a balance belt in addition to the timing belt. The only way to know would be to remove the covers and inspect them for noise I’m afraid. I will also say that you may not be able to rid yourself of the noise completely, in my experience all of those engines make that noise as they age to some degree.

            Thanks for the replies!
Its not causing any issues at the moment, so I will get into it when I can. I spent some time re-building a new head as the old one warped and was loosing coolant into the cylinders. I have to drill out a manifold bolt which snapped (due to age and heat, not my torque measurements) anyway so i’ll re-check it all then. I originally had a faint noise, and since having all the timing belts and drive belts off I is now louder. So it could just be something simple.

            Will keep you posted.

I still need to find an easy way to get the bolt out :-/. Its the bolt which is closest to the power steering pump so I will have to take the bracket off the power steering pump and drill the bolt out. I had to drill out another as it also broke, but was easier to access so drilled down the center of the bolt and got a tool which you tap in to the hole with a hammer and use a spanner to turn the bolt out.
