I recently had a tune up on my 2002 honda civic with 110,000 miles by a friend not a shop. It worked well but the when I attempted to accelerate it moved very slowly and then it was at a normal speed. Is that a transmission problem ?

if it feels like it’s bogging down or just doesn’t have the power it should after the tune-up I would go back and make sure the plug gaps are correct and that the coils are seated on the plugs properly. Most plugs come “pre-gapped” but often if you actually check the gap it’ll often be wrong. Do yourself a favor and splurge a little bit for some dielectric grease and some anti-seize as well. Most parts stores sell the mini packs for like $1. I believe Denso plugs are what come stock with the car so that’s what I would use.
Also, “tune-up” is a pretty broad term. I’m assuming the plugs were the only things replaced in this process since there’s no wires or distributor on your car.

May 30, 2014 at 12:27 am #604082I wouldn’t think so. Is it a manual or automatic trans?
May 30, 2014 at 12:29 am #604083Automatic
May 30, 2014 at 12:35 am #604084technically I guess it could be a torque converter issue, but I’m still gonna say it’s not a transmission problem.
is your check engine light on?
May 30, 2014 at 12:47 am #604095Only when I put gas it comes on then after about 70 miles it goes off
May 30, 2014 at 12:52 am #604097My guess is that your gaps are too wide and your spark is getting blown out and not igniting the fuel the way it should. Check your plug gaps. If those turn out to be good then focus on pulling the codes. Even though the check engine light isn’t on there should still at least be some pending codes stored. Usually auto parts stores will pull your codes for free.
How to gap your plugs:

May 31, 2014 at 6:22 am #604325I forgot to mention that he changed the distributor cap. Please help
May 31, 2014 at 6:54 am #604332First thing I’d do is take it back to this friend, and let him look at it. Might have just forgotten something.
Aside from that:
What specifically was done in this “tune-up”?
And you want to get that code, as the light might go back out, but it’s likely stored and giving you a major clue as to what is wrong.
Timing could be off now, could be quite a few things, that code should narrow it down if the friend can’t help further.May 31, 2014 at 7:00 am #604334
I forgot to mention that he changed the distributor cap. Please help
02 civics don’t have distributor caps
May 31, 2014 at 7:42 am #604341Spark plugs and the distributor cap
May 31, 2014 at 7:49 am #604343Ok
I will ask exactly what he did. ThanksMay 31, 2014 at 7:51 am #604347If this actually has a distributor (quick mentions it doesn’t, I really don’t know for that model/year myself), but the rotor was likely changed with it and might be off.
Again, I’d probably run this problem by the friend, and get the code(s) first thing.
