Despite Honda’s best efforts to thwart me every step of the way and trying everything (with the tools I had on hand) Eric had suggested to stabilize my idle with still no luck. I managed to hack the system so to speak to get the idle to stop bouncing. (Made sure no air in the cooling system, sprayed around trying to find vacuum leaks etc)
Remember I’m trying to get this car smogged and the idle was causing them to not be able to start the test.
Step one, I blocked off the air bypass valve. (Kroger coffee can lid with holes in it for the screw holes)
Step two, I blocked off the fast idle thermo valve (Coke can with holes for the screws)So that (in my opinion) removed those two items from the equation, since either misbehaving can introduce extra air into the system.
So if either valve opened to closed the coke can or coffee can would block it from allowing any additional air into the intake.I then pulled the IAC and cleaned it the best I could.
Now all that managed at least long enough, kept the idle steady, but unfortunately at a constant 1400 RPM. I contacted the inspection station and asked what the idle needed to be in order to start and he said as close to 1000 as possible and 1400 was too high.
I replaced the PCV valve but no luck, but after going back to move something, the PCV hose came apart under the
